Chief's Welcome Message

Welcome to the Police Department section of the Town of Coventry website. I hope that you will use this section to learn a little about our department and what we do. One of my goals is to continue to bring the community and its police department closer, thereby creating an environment where together we can work to keep Coventry a safe environment to live, work and raise our families.

The Coventry Police Department is a full-service agency, providing 24 hour a day patrol coverage. We investigate all reports of criminal or suspicious activity, investigate accidents, and conduct traffic enforcement efforts. We also provide a variety of other public service duties such as fingerprinting, safety presentations and coordinating with various town departments and agencies in matters of public safety. We have been accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) since July of 2010. We are one of only twenty-six municipal police departments in the state to hold this distinction. The department received the added distinction of being 'Accredited with Excellence' during the most recent assessment in 2020.

We are committed to providing for the protection of life and property of all persons regardless of their race, creed, color, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age or disability. The constitutional rights of all people shall be the primary concern of all members of the department in the performance of their official duties.

The Coventry Police Department obtains its authority from the people and is charged with the responsibility to achieve and maintain public order through the powers granted by the legislative bodies of the Federal, State, and Municipal Governments.

Public confidence in the criminal justice system depends to a large extent on the trust that the people have in their police department. Only by providing the highest quality of service and maintaining the highest professional ethics can we expect to foster that trust and confidence.

This web site is just one more way we hope to reach out to you, introduce our services, and solicit comments, and yes, even criticisms. You can also follow us on Facebook.
