Accident Reports
Accident reports are uploaded to Buy Crash within five days of the crash. If you choose, you may come to the police department to get a copy of the report for $5.00. Please have the date of the accident and the case number of the report.
Requests for police reports will be released consistent with Freedom of Information guidelines
Background Checks
Local background checks are available for town residents and those who work at businesses in town. You must come to the police department between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, with a valid photo identification. We perform only local records checks. Records checks through the State of Connecticut and other state reports are available through the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection.
Temporary Pistol Permit Applications
Town residents must apply for a temporarily pistol permit before obtaining their state permit to carry firearms.

Other Permits
The Coventry Police Department processes and issues a variety of permits. These include:
Town ordinances (PDF) may relate to vendors and vending permit applications. Some permits require background and fingerprint checks. The fee for fingerprinting is $10.00 for town residents and $25.00 for non-residents.
Fingerprinting Services
Fingerprinting for permits and other civil purposes is performed at police headquarters for town residents.
Due to distancing restrictions, fingerprinting is done by APPOINTMENT ONLY. Walk-ins are not accepted. If you are coming in to be fingerprinted for anything other than a temporary pistol permit application, you must pre-register with information given to you by the agency requesting the prints. Please call dispatch at 860-742-7331 to schedule an appointment. Fingerprinting is done at the following times:
- Wednesdays, 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
- Saturdays, 9:00 a.m to noon
The fingerprinting fee is $10.00 for town residents and $25.00 for non-residents.
Special Event Permits
Certain special events and large gatherings of 300 or more people require a permit. You can download and bring the completed application (PDF) to the police department for review.
